Back in the olden days, when I was a much younger woman (yes, when dinosaurs roamed the earth), I had a Grandma Ruth who made slippers for everyone for Christmas each year. Lots and lots of the softest, warmest handknit slippers. I got so used to having those slippers, and sadly, used to take them for granted. It's what Grandma Ruth did. Such a labor of love, making all those slippers every year. I miss Grandma Ruth, her passing left a big hole. What I didn't expect was how much I miss those toasty slippers.
Well, a couple days ago I received a gift in the mail. It was a gift given out of thoughtfulness and kindness, wanting nothing in return. Some lovely hand knit house slippers in the prettiest pink. I opened the package and slipped them on...and tears sprang to my eyes. They fit perfectly. Just like Grandma used to make. Thank you Twyla, your kindness warms my heart and my tootsies!

how nice! And they are so cute, too :)I used to have a similar pair...many moons ago, lol. May have to dig up a pattern and crochet myself a pair!
You are so welcome. I am glad you like them. May you and your family have a blessed Thanksgiving. Twyla
Those caught my eye on Flickr! What an amazing gift. Twyla...those are awesome. I love seeing and hearing about people appreciating knits in keeping with traditions and such.
Karen, your post made me go all misty-eyed...I miss my grandma so, even after 20+ years since her passing. Your slippers are as valuable and magical as those ruby ones, and, dare I say, much more comfortable? Happy Thanksgiving...Kathy
oh, I bought two pairs like that, one for me and one for my daughter a couple of years ago and they are wonderful.
Warm feet and a warm heart, a good combination!
aww how sweet and such a kind gesture. Its definately hard to appreciate things when you have them
What a sweet and thoughtful gift. Your feet are so lucky!
That is a sweet gift! The look comfy too! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Karen!
How precious! This post is so touching... my dear Grandma- that is always crocheting something for someone!- is not long for this world... I treasure all of her homespun gifts...
What a nice blessing! I used to wear hand-knit slippers too. Very cozy. I love your blog, I added it to my blogroll.
