Girl's Weekend---Look out!!

Yeah!! It's that time of year again! As far back as I can remember, the guys have always taken off for the fishing opener--usually for 4 or 5 days or more--leaving us poor women back home with all the babies all by ourselves. Waaah. Finally, one year, my sis-in-law and I were whining about it and we decided that we would get our own "fishing weekend"--and the guys get to stay home all by themselves with the kids! And girl's weekend was born. It started off with about 4 of us and the numbers have grown as the years go by--who knew so many women needed a break!!! LOL Luckily, we have a family cabin on a lake about 40 miles from town . It's a pretty rustic cabin and no running water (that's right--OUTHOUSE!) but it is perfect really. I think the first year we went was 1994--and it's been every year since, the weekend after opener. We only have a few rules, no bras, no men, no kids, and all food that is brought has to be pre-made--there is no
cooking except for crock pot stuff and things that you can heat up over the fire or in the microwave. We lounge around and laugh and talk and fish and drink and whine and throw horseshoes and just have a silly funny good time!
Here are a few pictures from last year--I'll share some of the new ones when I get home Monday (or Tuesday if I am too tired!). You all have a great weekend--and if you are ever in northern MN on the weekend after opener--you're all welcome to drop by.

What a fantastic tradition! I think weekends like this are vital to our well-being. My old college girlfriends and I try to get together once a year for some fun and adventure. We've visited Savannah, GA after reading Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil; we've enjoyed the pampering spas and antique stores in Hot Springs, Arkansas; beach weekends and so on. No men, no rules, and we do whatever we want when we want--so delicious! Have a blast this weekend and treasure the moments.

Can I come next year?
That sounds fun. I'm the only girl I know without young kids (besides Jenn Maruska) so I don't get to do that. I don't think my 2 female friends could leave like that. haha
Sounds super fun though. Have a good time and don't do anything naughty.

I am so, so jealous. I want to go1 I love to fish and play horeshoes and goof around with just the girls. My sis-in-law has a cabin and we haven't done a girl's weekend in way too long. I'm gonna call her and whine! Hope you're having a great time!

I have to do that at least once in my life. The outhouse scares me though. :)

Okay, I want to make a trip for week-end like that one! Outhouses and crockpots! Now that's a good time at the cabin! And it looks like a fun bunch of gals getting together too!!

This sounds like so much fun. I used to go fishing as a kid and I remember it being so enjjoyable. By the way still not smoking. Thanks for your supportive comments awhile back.
